Barefoot Blog
Being barefoot has certain social connotations. We may be seen as informal, at ease, or perhaps that we’re in a familiar setting. In some cultures it is polite to remove your shoes before crossing a threshold. And often, only when barefoot may we approach holy ground.
My life has been an exercise in searching for the sacred in our modern world. Some days it feels harder than others to find a place where I can breathe and be fully engaged in Truth.
And yet.
We are called to engage with our Savior in the easy times and in the difficult ones. Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus’ disciples, Mary, the woman at the well–all were called to a higher purpose than they ever imagined before they met the Lord. By saying ‘yes’ to the call, their lives became richer than they ever would have been on their own power.
So, I’m faced with a choice. I can ignore the calling of the Spirit in my life and go on living my own way. Or, I can daily make the choice to approach a sacred God, barefoot in heart and soul, and to engage with the One who calls me to a higher life.

Monsoon Season in Tucson
The significance of rain was never more real to me than when I first experienced a desert monsoon. It was the first 4th of July since I’d moved to Tucson, and we had some friends over to watch the fireworks, barbeque, play games, the usual activities. But once night fell, the air grew humid, and…

For Every Season
Lately I’ve been reminded to let God be God, no matter the season He’s given me to dwell in. There’s a certain art to being content no matter our life’s epoch, and King Solomon also wisely said in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that “for everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven.” …

A Return to Roots
I like watching shows like Kitchen Nightmares or Bar Rescue where a professional swoops in, analyzes what’s gone wrong, then cleans things up with a team of miraculous worker bees. And yet, the people who inspire me the most in these shows aren’t the saviors who brave the dungeon or the servers who’ve stuck with their hourly jobs or…

Armed with Joy
A few months ago, I wrote about one of the recurring symbols in my life at the time: dawn. In that post, I talked about how sometimes, we find ourselves in the Valley of Shadow wondering if there is any hope for the morning. While I praise God that the times of darkness in my life…
