Barefoot Blog
Being barefoot has certain social connotations. We may be seen as informal, at ease, or perhaps that we’re in a familiar setting. In some cultures it is polite to remove your shoes before crossing a threshold. And often, only when barefoot may we approach holy ground.
My life has been an exercise in searching for the sacred in our modern world. Some days it feels harder than others to find a place where I can breathe and be fully engaged in Truth.
And yet.
We are called to engage with our Savior in the easy times and in the difficult ones. Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus’ disciples, Mary, the woman at the well–all were called to a higher purpose than they ever imagined before they met the Lord. By saying ‘yes’ to the call, their lives became richer than they ever would have been on their own power.
So, I’m faced with a choice. I can ignore the calling of the Spirit in my life and go on living my own way. Or, I can daily make the choice to approach a sacred God, barefoot in heart and soul, and to engage with the One who calls me to a higher life.

Turning Points: Mother’s Day 2023
Mother’s Day is different for me, now that I’m a mom. It’s not so much that I’m included in the festivities, although that’s special too. It’s different because I see my own mom in a new light. All the years of sacrifice, the hardship, the open arms and encouraging words–parts of my childhood that I…

Holistic Housekeeping
My mom recently invested in chickens. It sounds like no big deal, until you realize just how much work goes into their startup and upkeep. From planning and building the enclosure (in the middle of an Arizona summer) to researching the best kind of feed for the budget to the physical labor of cleaning the…

Book Review: Adorning the Dark
Adorning the Dark by Andrew Peterson celebrates the beauty of storytelling through art and the calling of Christians to produce excellent work for the Kingdom. Peterson weaves in bits of memoir with his thoughts on what it means to be a musician, the writing process, and community’s role in the pursuit of creativity. But more…
