Barefoot Blog
Being barefoot has certain social connotations. We may be seen as informal, at ease, or perhaps that we’re in a familiar setting. In some cultures it is polite to remove your shoes before crossing a threshold. And often, only when barefoot may we approach holy ground.
My life has been an exercise in searching for the sacred in our modern world. Some days it feels harder than others to find a place where I can breathe and be fully engaged in Truth.
And yet.
We are called to engage with our Savior in the easy times and in the difficult ones. Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus’ disciples, Mary, the woman at the well–all were called to a higher purpose than they ever imagined before they met the Lord. By saying ‘yes’ to the call, their lives became richer than they ever would have been on their own power.
So, I’m faced with a choice. I can ignore the calling of the Spirit in my life and go on living my own way. Or, I can daily make the choice to approach a sacred God, barefoot in heart and soul, and to engage with the One who calls me to a higher life.

Advent 2022, Week 4: Love
I pray that this season of Advent has been one of reflection and drawing closer to the Lord. Jesus truly is the light in the darkness, the Word who made his dwelling among us. Without him, the shadows of the world are too much for us to overcome on our own. Praise be to God…

Advent 2022, Week 2: Peace
I won’t pretend like it’s been an easy week. In fact, the more I tried to reflect on peace each day, the further I felt from it. Isn’t that how it goes sometimes? Thankfully, even amid the chaos I know that there can be something more lasting. After all, peace isn’t the absence of conflict,…

Advent 2022, Week 1: Hope
Twice a year I dive into a time of writing to connect with my Savior in the most intimate way I know how: poetry. During the seasons of Advent and Lent I set aside time to write each day, and I always find myself drawing closer to God by the end. In the many years…

Expectant, But Not Asleep
It’s easy to get caught up in the daily grind of tasks and appointments. Especially around the holidays, it often feels like life becomes a blur of getting things done and preparing for one big event that’s over in a matter of hours. But sometimes, all of that comes to a halt. There are times…
