Barefoot Blog
Being barefoot has certain social connotations. We may be seen as informal, at ease, or perhaps that we’re in a familiar setting. In some cultures it is polite to remove your shoes before crossing a threshold. And often, only when barefoot may we approach holy ground.
My life has been an exercise in searching for the sacred in our modern world. Some days it feels harder than others to find a place where I can breathe and be fully engaged in Truth.
And yet.
We are called to engage with our Savior in the easy times and in the difficult ones. Abraham, Moses, David, Jesus’ disciples, Mary, the woman at the well–all were called to a higher purpose than they ever imagined before they met the Lord. By saying ‘yes’ to the call, their lives became richer than they ever would have been on their own power.
So, I’m faced with a choice. I can ignore the calling of the Spirit in my life and go on living my own way. Or, I can daily make the choice to approach a sacred God, barefoot in heart and soul, and to engage with the One who calls me to a higher life.

Lent 2023, Week Two
It’s been one of those weeks where I look back and say, “Yeah, that happened.” Nothing exceptionally good or bad, just a whole lot of striving and not much to show for it. With sickness running through the house and some exceptionally cranky children, I feel as if I just did battle all week and…

Lent 2023, Week One
I didn’t grow up in a traditional church–in fact, I’ve probably “grown up” in more denominations than I can fit on both hands. Perks of being part of a ministry family! I consider it a blessing, because I was exposed to the many different ways people practice Christianity, giving me a better sense of unity…

Letting Go of Old Laundry
About twice a year, I get the itch—the Big Closet Purge. I set out full of good intentions, planning to make more space in the drawers and keep it that way, at least until a sale at my favorite store rolls around. But for some reason, I always find myself trapped in the same hole. …

Cultivating a Life of Purpose
I’ve never been good with plants. I’m one of those unfortunate people who dreams of the luscious garden I would create with my own two hands, but I’m left staring at the withered remains of many failed attempts to keep things alive. My biggest accomplishment to date is a houseplant that somehow managed to survive…

Unfinished Business
I was talking to one of my brothers recently whose side passion is creating music. As we listened to some of his new projects, he laughed and made a comment that he’s got about fifty demos but no full-length works yet. Though it was said in jest, I can’t help but feel the statement accurately…
